Yukon Fire Department was sent to America Gas Plant on Gressly Rd. in South Huntingdon Township for a structure fire at 13:21. In addition to Yukon, fire equipment from Turkeytown, Mount Pleasant, West Newton and Youngwood were summoned to the scene. Upon arrival, Chief 19 reported smoke showing and confirmed a collection system in the plant had caught fire. Attack crews quickly extinguished the blaze, however it resulted in multiple steel buildings being filled with moderate smoke. Vent 3 was requested to the scene around 13:40 and responded directly from a R.I.T. drill with 8 personnel.
Vent 3 arrived to find multiple steel structures interconnected that had a combined dimension of 400ft x 250ft, with heights varying from 40ft to 100ft, estimated cubic feet of 6 million. While crews were in the overhaul stage, Vent 3 began operations from the northern center garage door using another garage door and a roof hatch on the southwest side of the structure as an exit point for the smoke. The exit point was located in an area where the ceiling was 100ft high. Ventilation Operations continued for approximately 25 minutes until Vent 3 returned home.
